Guide

How to write a manufacturer brief without hiding unknowns.

A useful brief does not need to pretend the product is finished. It needs to make the boundary between known and unknown unmistakable.

1. Confirmed definition

List only values supported well enough to be used as the current specification.

2. Founder decisions

Keep commercial and product choices with the founder instead of asking the manufacturer to define the product strategy.

3. Supplier and engineering questions

Ask for proposals where manufacturing knowledge or engineering judgement is genuinely required.

4. Validation

Keep test, safety and compliance requirements separate from mere statements of intent.

5. References

Make drawings, images and documents traceable to the requirements they support.
